ABSTRACT

Abstract This article analyzes the course in health education (Hygiene and Preventive Medicine) developed in 1929 by Oscar Clark, head doctor of the Medical Inspection and School Dental Care Service. We investigate the concept of teacher training implemented in schools in Rio de Janeiro (then Brazil's capital) to create a "health crusade." We start from the understanding that the course emerged in locus and produced lessons on education and hygiene, acting as a prescriptive space for medicine, pedagogy, and science, remembering that the course was part of the strategies of the Board of Instruction (1927-1930) to establish a normative and educational ethos for everyday teaching practices.

ABSTRACT

In response to the major national strategic needs of "Healthy China" and "Innovation-Driven Development", Sichuan University, as a pilot university of "Excellent Doctor Education and Training Plan-Top Innovative Medical Personnel Training", has been exploring the training strategies since 2012. On the basis of the international theory of "The Third Generation of Medical Education based on Health System", we have innovatively put forward the new era of "Med+" education theory based on research-oriented hospitals (with medical/research/translational facility) and the two-level training paradigm from "cultivating professionalism" to "notch up to top" by planting three cultures. We have also developed a competency training system of "Five Integrated Curricula and Five Teaching & Learning Strategies". We have shifted from "didactic teaching" to "formative learning", edifying excellent doctors with "professionalism culture". We have initiated two kinds of top-notch plans, constructed a "1+2+3" innovation and entrepreneurship education system, explored "transformative learning" to incubate compound top-notch personnel with "innovative culture", opened up a "school-hospital unified" administrative system, built a PDCA closed-loop of quality control supported by mobile technology, and recast the "quality culture" to ensure shifting from "cultivating professionalism" to "notch up to top".

ABSTRACT

Medical humanistic literacy education is important in modern medical education. In the United States, Britain, Japan and other countries, many medical schools have incorporated medical humanistic literacy education into compulsory courses and attached great importance to its value. However, the humanistic literacy education in domestic colleges has not yet formed a systematic development. This article analyzes the current status and deficiencies of domestic medical humanistic literacy education by comparing the development stages and characteristics of foreign medical humanistic literacy education. This paper puts forward reasonable suggestions on the integration of medical humanistic literacy curriculum from three aspects: medical education structure and modes, teaching methods and the importance attached to medical literacy education, aiming to provide a reference for our country's reform of medical education.

ABSTRACT

Biochemistry experiment is an experimental module associated with biochemistry curriculum. In the context of deepening the education reform on innovation & entrepreneurship, integrating the concept of innovation & entrepreneurship with the experimental course is an effective way for the biology discipline to foster professional talents with strong engineering ability and innovation & entrepreneurship ability. Outcome-based education (OBE) is a new concept for education. Guided by this concept, we encouraged students to propose and take part in research projects, redesigned the time frame for research project-based experiment teaching, and implemented a multi-dimensional evaluation system along the entire teaching process. Furthermore, we integrated the concept of innovation & entrepreneurship for training undergraduates during the teaching process of biochemistry experiment. These measures not only boosted the students' interest in research and innovation, but also guided the teachers to participate in the entire process, which helped improving the engineering ability and innovation & entrepreneurship ability of the students.

ABSTRACT

Abstract This article analyzes high school education reform and its impact on the education project on those who work for a living. By analyzing Law 13.415/2017, recent statistics and the new proposal for curricular organization, arguments will be identified that point to the flexibilization of high school education as an expression of the pedagogical project of the flexible accumulation system, whose logic continues to be the unequal distribution of knowledge, but in a differentiated way. The aim is the formation of flexible subjectivities submitted to the precarity of work, naturalizing instability, insecurity and deregulation for an alleged autonomy of choice. From the ontological viewpoint, the article shows that the high school education reform responds to the alignment of the flexible accumulation system formation. In epistemological terms, it compares the conception of praxis that guided the drafting of the curricular guidelines in 2012 with the dimensions of individualism, fragmentation, presentism and pragmatism present in the new guidelines. Based on the analysis, the author emphasizes the need to create other forms of curricular organization in the exercise of autonomy by the school as an alternative for the integral formation of young individuals.

ABSTRACT

As an important sub-discipline of dentistry, orthodontics is regarded as the post-graduate education for postgraduates and advanced doctors both at home and abroad. Orthodontics is a professional, practical and systematic discipline, therefore, the conventional education model is hard to get a good result. In this study, a new idea of four-component instructional design model (4C/ID) guided by "integration" was explored in the education of orthodontics, combined with the author's study experience in the University of Pennsylvania. The 4C/ID mainly included four elements: learning tasks, supportive information, procedural information and part-task practice, which emphasized in providing learners a set of real, specific and work-oriented complete learning tasks, so as to replace "partial task learning" to "overall task learning". This study explored the 4C/ID and its application on clinical teaching in orthodontics.

ABSTRACT

A highly skilled surgical team relies on a standardized training program. This article presents a comprehensive description on the current status, problems, and strategies in Hepato-bilio-pancreatic surgery education reform in Zhejiang University School of Medicine (ZJU), China. A multiple-discipline joint training program was set up by integrating the basic laboratory and clinical research as well as routine clinical practice. Reform includes resident training in the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, curriculum resetting, surgery textbook rewriting, clinical teaching and training bases construction, teaching methods improvement, English reading, writing and reporting skills training and a research assignment. ZJU establishes rigorous processes for managing teaching quality and ensuring graduates promote evidence-based surgical practice. ZJU has built its leading position in the Hepato-Bilio-Pancreatic surgery in China. In 2011, 6 post-doctoral researchers, 52 Ph.D. students and 83 master students were enrolled in the 7year MD program and 8year Ph.D. MD/Ph.D. program. The admission scores have been listed as the top three of the 264 master degrees programs and 181 doctoral degrees programs in Zhejiang University, which ranks among the top three in all Chinese Universities. Historical experience and the advanced experience of Western countries are adopted as a reference to build up a surgical education system with Chinese characteristics to achieve a continuous, sound, and rapid development of surgical education in ZJU, China. However, there are differences relating to the healthcare systems of China and Western countries. These differences present major challenges for the internationalization of surgical education. This article may facilitate the process of surgical training development in a global context.
